Jussi Björling – the most prominent tenor ever

The Swedish tenor Jussi Björling was one of the leading operatic singers and one of the most admired tenors of the 20th century. He is loved for his Music and remarkable voice, not only in Sweden but aacross the world. One of the most outstanding experts as well as admirers of Jussi Björling happens to be The Rt Hon David Mellor QC. I was therefore thrilled to host an evening at the residence where David Mellor talked about Jussi Björling’s music and his unique voice. It was a spellbinding evening that I will always remember. Mellor was simply outstanding.
I was also most grateful to the tenor Jonas Degerfeldt and Gunnel Lundberg on piano, for coming all the way from The Swedish Royal Opera House in Stockholm, to perform a selection of Jussi Björling’s songs. They gave a wonderful performance and it was in many ways very moving not least as the final song was very fittingly “Sverige”.
