Lord Mayor Silent Ceremony
Yesterday I attended the Silent Ceremony at the Guildhall for the Admission of the new Lord Mayor Alan Yarrow. It was a most dignified ceremony where the outgoing Lord Mayor transferred the mayoral insignia to the incoming Lord Mayor. The reason the ceremony is known as the “Silent Ceremony” is because, apart from a short declaration by the incoming Lord Mayor, no speeches are made. After the ceremony we had afternoon tea in the Chamberlain’s office and enjoyed a very good speech by Murray Craig, the clerk of the Chamberlain’s Court.
