Young Swedish Design at Southbank
I was delighted to see Swedish Design as part of the London Design Festival for the 4th year in a row and Ung Svensk Form/Young Swedish Design at Designersblock for the 2nd time. Ung Svensk Form/ Young Swedish Design is this time exhibiting both fashion and design in a broad sense. I was very pleased to inaugerate the event together with Jude Kelly, Artistic Director of the Southbank Centre.
In addition nine young Swedish designers are currently showing their work under the heading Cabinets of Curiosity at the Mint Shop.
This was all made possible through cooperation between Svensk Form, Swedish Institute and the Swedish Embassy in London.
Ung Svensk Form/Young Swedish Design is a juried award for the latest and newest in design- a window to the future. The designs will give you an overview of some of the current design in Sweden. In this year’s edition of Ung Svensk Form/Young Swedish Design, you will notice a strong sense of social responsibility, a growing interest for environmental issues and a return to small scale production, craftsmanship and the use of material produced locally.
It is very important for our designers to have the opportunity to play a part on the international stage at the London Design Festival- and in London with all its creative energy. We are therefore delighted to be able to support this kind of exchange and we are very much looking forward to a continuation next year.
