On Safer Ground

One of the more touching stories that I have come across in the past year is the true story about a team of football mad teenagers from Laos.

Laos is the most heavily bombed country on earth. It is a country that has paid dearly for unexploded landmines and cluster bombs on its territory. In the film “On Safer Ground” a small group of Lao teenagers decides to make their dream come true. With support from the entrepreneurial UK citizen Gareth Carter and many others, the group becomes the first team to represent their country at the Swedish Gothia Cup, the biggest youth football tournament in the world.

Not only did the team participate, but they made it all the way to the semi-finals. In addition the team was presented with medals and the Fair Play Trophy. This trophy is given to the team that has played the game with the most respect and who have best represented their country.

We are grateful to Stena Line for supporting both the project and the film. It is a beautiful story of hope and I strongly recommend the trailer.
