All my life in a bag

There are few things as inspiring as meeting people who empower other people. Last week I had the opportunity to meet with Birgitta Notlöf who is the head of Livstycket – a modern design and knowledge centre located in Tensta – a suburb to the north of Stockholm.

The idea behind Livstycket is to teach women from all over the world to read and write through participating in sewing and design activities at the centre. The vision is that people who pass through this centre will go out in society as enriched individuals.

The textiles that are produced at the centre are beautiful and tell fantastic stories. My favorite one is called ”All my life in a bag” and it tells the story of leaving and arriving. Fleeing from war and insecurity often starts with a single bag. That bag contains a person’s life. Livstycket has organised exhibitions and catwalks with their designs and clothes and I hope to see more of Livstycket in London in the future.
