Queen’s Garden Party
The Queen’s Garden Party is a lovely event with tea and cakes in the beautiful garden of Buckingham Palace. Every summer the Queen hosts at least three garden parties at Buckingham Palace. In addition there is a royal garden party at Edinburgh’s Palace of Holyroodhouse every year.
Close to 30 000 people from all walks of life attend these parties. If you add together the amount of people that have been attending these royal garden parties over the last 60 years you will reach quite an astonishing number.
Queen Victoria introduced the garden parties in the 1860s and ever since then they have been tremendously popular. I attended my first garden party in 1995. I very clearly remember that it was an extremely hot summer and all the diplomats were discussing the war in Bosnia. This year the conversations focused a lot on the crisis in the eurozone.
