IKEA and H&M at the Top in the UK

IKEA has overtaken John Lewis in popularity and is now Britain’s favourite shop. In addition, H&M is considered the fifth most popular shop in Britain. This means that two companies that were started in Sweden are among the top ten shops in Britain. The story about IKEA started in 1943 in the small village of Agunnaryd. Since then IKEA has turned into a large company with 131,000 employees in 41 countries. There are a number of striking facts about IKEA. Last year 522 million people visited IKEA and two billion meatballs are sold annually in IKEA stores. In addition more than 41 million Billy bookcase units have been sold worldwide.
H&M is the third largest fashion retailer after Gap and Zara. H&M (Hennes) was founded in 1947 when the first shop opened in Västerås. In 1968 it turned into H&M (Hennes & Mauritz). Today, H&M has 91,000 employees in 43 countries.
