Renewable sources of energy
Recently I was present at the inauguration of the new “Japan Renewable Energy Foundation” (自然エネルギー財団). The founder is the chairman and CEO of Softbank Corporation, Mr. Masayoshi Son, and the person appointed as the Executive Board Chair is Dr. Tomas Kåberger, who until recently was the Director General of the Swedish Energy Agency.
I was very impressed by the ambitions of the new Foundation and it was established at a time when it is urgent to explore and develop various alternative sources of energy. After the nuclear disaster at the Fukushima nuclerar plant more and more voices have been raised in Japan against the use of nuclear energy, but it is not an easy matter to switch to other sources in a short period of time. However, at the moment Japan is actually using only about a quarter of its more than 50 reactors and reductions in the use of electricity have been remarkable after the tsunami. It is indeed time to also switch to a green mind-set.
