A few days ago Sweden and Japan signed an agreement on railway cooperation. The Swedish Ministry of Enterprise, Energy and Communications and the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), will look into ways of improving efficiency and safety, etc.

This is happy news. There is always room for improvement.

スウェーデンと日本は、除雪、環境への影響や高速鉄道事業などの分野で協力し、経験や技術・専門知識の交流を増進するためにセミナーや会議が行われる予定です。 インフラストラクチャー大臣カタリーナ・エルムセーテル=スヴァード氏は、「日本と協力強化ができることを嬉しく思い、日本の鉄道システムで用いられる高度技術の解決策に特に関心を持っている」と話しました。

先日、大使館でスウェーデン社会研究所の面白いセミナーがありました。「スウェーデン人と日本人の創造性について」というタイトルでしたが、東海大学名誉教授川崎一彦氏とイケアジャパン人事本部長泉川鈴香氏と一緒にスウェーデン人と日本人がどういうふうに違っているか、どういうふうに似ているか、面白い議論をしました。違った歴史と経験がありますから、当然違っているところがかなりあります。しかしわれわれはみな人間だからもちろん創造性のある人とない人が両社会にあります。そして、必要に迫られて創造性が生み出されると思います。社会と社会を一般的に比べるとやはりスウェーデンではユニークな発明が多いかもしれないが、必要性も違っていた。たとえば、ジッパーはあるスウェーデン人の発明ですが、昔の日本社会ではジッパーを発明する必要はないのではないでしょうか。プロペラもそうですが、江戸時代にプロペラがあっても当時の船に必要はなかったと思います。

いろんな国際調査によるとスウェーデンは確かに創造性を持っている国の中のトップです。発明も多いのです。その理由は必要性と多様性にあると思います。スウェーデンという社会は昔から他の国と密接にかかわったのです。それから移民も昔からかなり多かったと思います。多様性は国の力となったのです。民主主義もはやく発達し、社会の多元的なアスペクトも創造性の元になりました。
